Dental trauma refers to physical injury to the teeth, supporting structures (periodontium, alveolar bone), and surrounding soft tissues of the mouth. It can result from various incidents, including falls, sports-related impacts, vehicular accidents, or physical altercations. It encompasses a range of conditions from enamel fractures and luxation injuries to avulsions and alveolar bone fractures. Effective management requires prompt diagnosis, evidence-based intervention, and long-term follow-up to preserve function, aesthetics, and pulpal and periodontal health.
Session Objectives: To understand dental trauma – the differing injuries that may present, what optimum treatment strategies are available and the follow-up protocols that are required and consider the long term consequences based on current international guidance with practical hints and tips.
